About Us
The Art Group started in the parish over twenty years ago when a small group was formed to enhance our liturgy by using visual media to enhance the Word of God.
Aims and Objectives
The Art Group works under the co-ordination of the Liturgy Group to enhance our parish liturgical celebrations, especially for major feasts and seasons. Workshops are run prior to the season and are posted in the parish newsletter and announcements. There are a core team of people who discuss ideas and themes to decorate the church based on the appropriate scripture readings.
Current Activities
The role of the Art Group is to think about a visual contribution to the celebration of the liturgies. We work on a theme and invite members of our community to participate in the creation of beautiful decorations that deepen our connection to the liturgy.
Our main activity comes in preparation for Advent and Christmas and for Lent and the Easter season, at which times we co-ordinate with the other liturgical groups to present the themes of the season in a unified way. The group meets in advance of these to consider the liturgy and to share ideas and plan what we will create. We occasionally hold workshop sessions at which hangings, banners and other items are made and over the years have created an archive of artworks that have been created by members of the parish.
